Personal loan EMI calculator

A personal loan EMI on a reducing balance is calculated as EMI = P × r × (1+r)^n ÷ ((1+r)^n − 1), where P is the principal, r is the monthly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100) and n is the tenure in months. At 14.5% p.a., ₹1,00,000 over 24 months gives an EMI of about ₹4,830.

How to use the result

  1. 1. Enter the amount you actually need

Pick the smallest amount that solves the problem, between ₹5,000 and ₹5,00,000. Borrowing more than the requirement raises both the EMI and the total interest.

  2. 2. Choose a tenure your worst month can afford

Tenures run 3 to 60 months. A longer tenure lowers the EMI but increases total interest, so compare both figures rather than only the monthly number.

  3. 3. Read the EMI, total interest and total repayable together

The EMI tells you whether you can service the loan. Total repayable tells you what the loan costs. Both matter, and only reading the first is how people over-borrow.

  4. 4. Confirm against the Key Fact Statement

The calculator uses the lowest available rate. Your actual APR is set by the lending partner based on your profile and is stated, along with every fee, in the Key Fact Statement before you sign.
